Hello readers! It has been awhile since I last did a blog post. But I’m back to review my first “Gundam kit bash project!”
This Gundam kit bash was made from these two High Grade 1/144 Gundam Model kits and one MS Option Set. They are:
– HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos (Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans)
– HG 1/144 Gundam Bael (Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans)
– Gundam HG MS Option Set 03 (Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans)
I’ve been thinkin about this kit bash ever since I got back into Gundam building.Â
I used the arms, torso, and waist of the Barbatos and used the head, shoulders, hands, side skirts, and legs of Bael.Â
I also clipped & sanded the “v fin” on the head a bit and used Tamiya white putty on the engraved reactor symbol on the chest.
I also cut and sanded the one handed hatchet weapon to make it look different from the standard weapon from the Option set.
The primers, paints, and liners I used on this kit bash are:
– Mr. Hobby Mr. Surfacer 1000 Primer “Gray” (To spray on the inner frame & pieces that I was going to color.)
– Tamiya TS-6 “Matt Black” Spray Paint (On top of the chest, tips and bottom of the feet, top fo the front waist, shoulder edges,
tops of the knees, behind the forearms, left wrist shield.)
– Tamiya TS-33 “Dull Red” Spray Paint (On the creast and chin on the head, chest vents, front skirt vents on the waist,
and top and back of the feet.)
– Tamiya TS-38 “Gun Metal” Spray Paint (Inner frame & weapons.)
– Tamiya TS-27 “Matt White” Spray Paint (Only on the bottom of the chest to cover the primed and puttied up reactor symbol.)
– Bandai Gundam Marker GM09 “Green” Paint Pen (On the eyes and reactor symbols on the sides of the shoulders.)
– Bandai Gundam Marker GM16 “Metallic Red” Paint Pen (On the cables on the forearms and behind the legs, and weapons.)
– Bandai Gundam Marker GM22 “Metallic” Paint Pen (For minor painting on the backpack, side skirts, and back skirt)
– Bandai Gundam Marker GSI “Black” Fine Point Liner Pen (Detail lining the kit.)
– Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color “Black” (Detail lining the kit.)
After the build I also used leftover sticker decals from my Master Grade 1/100 scale “Gundam Barbatos” to fit the
“Iron Blooded Orphans” theme.
So overall I’m happy with how the first kitbash turned out! The painting looks great, the articulation is good but it does have it’s limits, and I’m glad that I did something different to the one handed weapon instead of leaving it the same.
I hope you enjoy looking at the rest of the pictures of this build and until next time you guys, take it easy!
